Noel Gallagher confirms solo career

Noel Gallagher has confirmed he's planning to launch a solo career - just two months after he walked away from Oasis. Skip related content
Related photos / videos Enlarge photo The Wonderwall hitmaker stunned fans when he quit the Britpop pioneers as they prepared to go onstage at the Rock en Seine festival in Paris, France in August, following a fight with his singer brother Liam.

Liam recently confirmed the band will not continue without the guitarist, and Noel has now spoken out about his plans to go solo.

He says, "I'm looking forward to doing my own thing, bringing out my own music. I'm glad that's what people want to hear. I am not thinking about much else, Oasis or Liam, I'm just having a good time."

Liam confirms Oasis are no longer

Liam Gallagher has broken his silence for the first time since brother Noel quit Oasis, and admitted the band is "no longer".

Liam confirms Oasis are no longer .The frontman has kept a low profile since guitarist Noel walked out moments before a festival show last month, blaming Liam's behaviour for his exit.

Now the singer has said the band will not continue, adding: "It's a shame, but that's life."

In an interview with The Times, Liam said: "Oasis is no longer. I think we all know that. So that's done. I know. Without a doubt. And it's a shame, but that's life. We had a good run at it. The thing about Oasis is ... we ended Oasis. No one ended it for us. Which was pretty, kind of ... cool."

Liam, who launched a fashion label Pretty Green earlier this year, said he was now focusing on his next move in the music world. He said all his efforts were on working out what he will do.

"I'm thinking of what the next step is musically, which is all my mind's on," he said.

The 37-year-old singer revealed he wants to bide his time before revealing his side of the split because he does not want his "Oasis headstone" to be spoken anger.

Noel had already made it clear, before he walked out on the band in August prior to the Paris show, that he hoped to record a solo album. Liam said: "People will be able to buy his records. People will be able to buy our records. So everyone's happy."

Liam - often accused of a lack of commitment to the band by his brother - said he had fond memories of touring with the band. And he said he missed being on the gig circuit.

"We've always had a lot of fun. I've always had a lot of fun. That's why it was never hard work for me."

Noel Gallagher joins Kasabian on tour

The rock legend - who quit Oasis last month after a furious row with brother, and the group's frontman, Liam - will appear with the band on their forthcoming UK tour.

Frontman Tom Meighan said: "We've got our arena tour in November. Noel will be calling us up nearer the time for sure saying, 'Lads, I'm going to come perform with you on tour.'

"He's a performing machine, and loves playing live so he jumps at the opportunity whenever he can join us."

Tom also revealed the band may also record a track with Noel in the future.

He said: "We'd love to do a track with him. Never say never. But at the moment he's concentrating on his solo stuff and we're busy as ever."

Kasabian supported Oasis on their recent UK tour before the 'Wonderwall' rockers cancelled a number of shows after splitting in August.

However, Tom admits he didn't see any signs they were going to split.

He said: "Oasis were at the pinnacle of the music world for 16 years and despite touring with them this year, we didn't see any signs that they were falling apart."

No-asis for Liam Gallagher

The future of the band is in doubt following the departure of guitarist Noel Gallagher and despite the singer's intentions to continue, the rest of the group - guitarist Gem Archer, bassist Andy Bell and drummer Chris Sharrock - are unsure they can cope with the frontman's moods.

A source told Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "It was always on the cards that Noel was to quit - the other band members saw it coming the night before he walked out.

"Some have already started to look for pastures new - as they have no idea how the new format of Oasis would work.

"Now that Noel has gone, no one else knows how they'll put up with Liam's big mouth. They saw how Liam treated Noel and don't know what will happen if he does the same to them. They have their doubts it can survive without Noel."

Noel quit the band last Friday (28.08.09) following a fist fight with his brother shortly before they were due to perform at the Rock en Seine festival in Paris.

During the altercation - in which one of Liam's treasured guitars was smashed - the frontman is said to have shouted: "You're no brother of mine."

After leaving the group, Noel, 42, issued a statement saying he could no longer continue working with Liam, 36.

The musician said: "The details are not important and of too great a number to list. But I feel you have the right to know that the level of verbal and violent intimidation towards me, my family, friends and comrades has become intolerable. And the lack of support and understanding from my management and bandmates has left me with no other option than to get me cape and seek pastures new."

Despite the acrimonious split, Liam and Noel's mother Peggy is hopeful they will reunite.

She said: "Liam adores Noel. They do love each other, but they've always been very different. I hope this isn't the end of Oasis. I don't think it is. They're just tired at the end of the tour. They've had fights before and got over it."

Noel Gallagher to tell all

The guitarist quit the group last week following an explosive row with his brother, the band's frontman Liam Gallagher, and Noel is in talks to reveal the events leading up to the split to UK TV host Piers Morgan.

A source told Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "Noel and Liam haven't been shy in having a public rift, but there is much more happening behind-the-scenes than anyone can even imagine.

"Piers is the perfect interviewer to get to the heart of what's been going on."

The interview is expected to be broadcast in the UK when his TV Show 'Piers Morgan's Life Stories' - in which he speaks to celebrities about key moments in their lives - returns later this year.

In the months leading up to the split, Noel and Liam had both spoken less-than-favourably about one another, with the guitarist even revealing his sibling has not yet met his two-year-old son Donovan.

Despite their problems, the brothers' mother Peggy Gallagher believes they will reconcile.

She said: "Liam adores Noel. They do love each other, but they've always been very different. The funny thing is, they didn't fight as children. They didn't fight until they started the band.

"I hope this isn't the end of Oasis. I don't think it is. They're just tired at the end of the tour. They've had fights before and got over it."

Songwriter Noel, 42, quit the band last Friday (28.08.09), minutes before the group was due on stage at Paris' Rock en Seine festival.

Liam, 36, reportedly smashed Noel's guitar while screaming, "You're no brother of mine!"

Noel later released a statement announcing he had left the band and repeated his intention never to return in a second statement.

It read: "The details are not important and of too great a number to list. But I feel you have the right to know that the level of verbal and violent intimidation towards me, my family, friends and comrades has become intolerable.

"And the lack of support and understanding from my management and band mates has left me with no other option than to seek new pastures."

Noel is now expected to embark on a solo career, while Liam wants to continue the band.

Evan Dando y Oasis

Excerpt from "Oasis and Friends" article
by Ted Kessler from the NME Glastonbury Special June 2003

Glastonbury 1995 was played out under clear blue skies and balmy sunshine, yet it will always be remembered as the year the gathering storm of Britpop broke forcefully over its green and mental valley. Oasis may have been headlining Glastonbury for the first time that Friday, but Liam Gallagher and co reserved their best performance for the backstage area.

Noel, meanwhile, was characeristically relaxed about his big show. He even paid the VIP section a brief visit and stood at its entrance with a glass and greeted those entering as if welcoming them to his own private fete, It was here that he ran into his pal Evan Dando.

Dando had spent the previous couple of years on a trajectory into outer rock-star space on the back of The Lemonheads' worldwide grunge-pop hit 'It's A Shame About Ray', and was now hurtling back to earth at a startling rate. The closer he got to reentering out atmosphere, however, the more frazzled he became and this weekend he was pretty frazzled. Certainly frazzled enough to miss his slot on the main stage and be forced on before Portishead, whose enraged fans bottled him off (imagine!), but that humiliation was still hours away.

Until then, he had drinking to indulge in with Oasis, Robbie Williams and an ever-expanding entourage that included Elastica, Pulp, the Boo Radleys and just every Britpop star in the making.

After Oasis' headline set, Noel was pleased to bump once more into Evan Dando. Dando had become tight with Oasis the year before when he bonded with the band on tour. When The Lemonheads' tour ended, Dando - who loved touring nearly as much as he loved getting high - just jumped in the back of Oasis' van and became their unofficial roadie. It seemed strange behaviour for an internation rock star, but Dando was an unusual rock star - he was a cool, handsome dude who seemed intent on destroying any credibility he had. Having missed his slot on the mage stage, and having been roundly abused when he did step up to the mic ("damn stupid hippies," he mumbled at the audience. "Bit rich," said the audience), he'd spent the rest of the evening performing for free. He'd played on the top of his van for a while. He'd played through the fence to passing kids. And now, at the end of the day, he sat around a campfire and played songs with his old buddy Noel Gallagher.

For those two dozen or so in the backstage area who happened to chance upon this duo, it will remain the indelible highlight of the weekend. Two of the greatest young songwriters of their generation trying to remember the words to Bob Dylan songs... well, it worked round that particular campfire anyhow. Eventually, though, Noel was called to his berth on the bus and he bade Evan a fond farewell. The Oasis bus was heading off-site, to a destination known simply as "Supernova". Evan Dando was heading in the opposite direction.

Oasis bust-up blamed on booze

The vicious fight between Oasis brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher that ripped the band apart on Friday was sparked by an argument over the frontman's drinking, according to reports.

Guitarist Noel sensationally quit the band after a ferocious bust-up with singer Liam just minutes before they were due onstage at a music festival in France.

The star subsequently came out and blamed his brother for his decision to leave, insisting life in the band had become "intolerable."

Noel also mentioned the band's axed headline slot at the V Festival in Chelmsford, England last Sunday, hinting the cancellation was not down to Liam's throat virus, as had been previously claimed.

He wrote, "I can only apologise - although I don't know why, it was nothing to do with me. I was match fit and ready to be brilliant. Alas, other people in the group weren't up to it."

Now new reports claim Liam's boozing became an issue between brothers throughout their US tour this year and sparked the final fight in France after the frontman allegedly turned up to the gig drunk.

A source tells British newspaper The Sun, "Liam has been drinking heavily for the duration of the tour and regularly got very abusive and personal. He has taunted Noel's girlfriend Sara, other band members, and the crew. People have been frightened to go near him. He is one very angry man who needs to sort his issues out."

Noel Gallagher quits Oasis

The future of rock group Oasis was plunged into doubt Saturday after lead guitarist Noel Gallagher dramatically announced he was quitting because he can no longer work with his brother Liam.

"It's with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight," Noel said in a brief statement posted on the band's website Friday.

"People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer."

It brings an end to months of speculation about the future of Oasis, which was at the vanguard of the Britpop music wave of the mid-1990s and went on to become one of the most commercially successful British bands in years.

Lead singer Liam and Noel, his older brother and the main songwriter, have had a notoriously stormy relationship since the band formed in 1991, but rumours grew in recent days that their differences had become insurmountable.

"I think this is pretty major. Noel's a proud person, he won't go back on it. And he knows he could make a successful solo album," said Alan McGee, the founder of Creation Records and the man who originally signed the band.

He said it was a "really, really sad day" but predicted that they would "probably" work together again, even if it took years.

Noel, 42, announced his decision after the group suddenly cancelled a concert at a music festival near Paris on Friday, with organisers saying the brothers had had a fight backstage shortly before they were to play.

A spokesman for the organisers of the Rock en Seine festival told the 30,000 crowd: "The group no longer exists. They will not play tonight and they are cancelling the rest of their European tour."

The director of the festival, Francois Missonnier, told journalists: "For reasons which are unclear, a fight broke out between the brothers. Noel left the festival and no one could make him come back."

British singer Amy Macdonald, who was playing at the festival, wrote on her Twitter page: "Oasis cancelled again with one minute to stage time! Liam smashed Noel's guitar, huuuge fight!"

Last weekend the band pulled out of a concert at the V Festival in Chelmsford, southern England, with organisers saying Liam, 36, had lost his voice due to viral laryngitis.

The cancellation prompted media suggestions of a split, but Liam rejected this on his Twitter page.

After Paris, Oasis had been scheduled to play at the Rock am See festival in Germany and in Milan. In his statement, Noel apologised to fans who had bought tickets for the concerts.

Liam revealed this month that his relationship with his brother was so bad that they no longer speak, travel separately on tour and only see each other on stage.

The group's fans took to Twitter to express their sadness at Noel's departure.

PsychedelicAdam posted: "Noel Gallagher leaves Oasis? Gutted, no more Oasis then I guess, they were one of my favourite bands."

Another fan, MattGriffin, said: "This is the worst day ever."

Liam was part of the original lineup of the band, then called The Rain, with Noel joining soon after.

They launched their debut album as Oasis, "Definitely Maybe", in 1994 and have since sold a reported 50 million records worldwide.

Their guitar-driven songs, with a nod to The Beatles, put them at the forefront of a wave of mid-1990s British music dubbed "Britpop" by critics, along with London-based Blur, with whom they had a public feud.

In 1995, they released the critically acclaimed album "(What's the Story) Morning Glory?", and "Be Here Now", released two years later, became the fastest-selling album in British chart history.

Reports of the brothers' rows and rock star excesses began filling newspapers, however, and the band's popularity waned.

But they found fresh success with recent albums "Don't Believe the Truth" and "Dig Out Your Soul".

Noel Gallagher quits Oasis

Snif... espero que no sea más que otra pelea entre hermanos, aunque ya habiendo hecho el anuncio oficial =(

(Saturday August 29, 2009 08:36 AM)

Noel Gallagher has sensationally quit Oasis after a dramatic pre-concert fight with his bandmate brother Liam.

The Wonderwall rockers had a massive bust-up backstage at the Rock en Seine festival in Paris, France, on Friday just minutes before they were due to perform.

It's claimed singer Liam smashed one of Noel's guitars, sending his brother into a fury. After a confrontation, a raging Noel stormed out and announced he has quit the band.

Noel says he is both sad and relieved to be walking away from Oasis after 18 years.

In a statement on the band's official website, he wrote: "It's with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight.

"People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.

"Apologies to all the people who bought tickets for the shows in Paris, Konstanz and Milan."

Disappointed fans at Rock en Seine were told about the cancellation on giant screens with a message explaining that "an altercation within the band" was to blame.

Singer Amy McDonald also posted an account of the brothers' tussle on her Twitter.com page: "Cancelled again with one minute to stage time!!! Liam smashed Noel's guitar, huuuge fight!"

The split comes just days after Oasis axed a headline slot at the V Festival on Sunday, blaming Liam's throat infection. The band was nearing the end of its current world tour, which has been riddled with reports of battles between the brothers.

Earlier this week they were forced to release a statement denying split rumours. It read, "Oasis will complete the rest of the world tour in Europe and then take some well-earned time off before they begin to think about the next album and tour."

Oasis formed in Manchester in 1991, and were the biggest band of the Britpop movement in the 1990s. They sold more than 50 million records worldwide and had eight Number One singles in the charts.

La despedida oficial

29/08/09

Dearly beloved, it is with a heavy heart and a sad face that I say this to you this morning.

As of last Friday the 28th August, I have been forced to leave the Manchester rock'n'roll pop group Oasis.

The details are not important and of too great a number to list. But I feel you have the right to know that the level of verbal and violent intimidation towards me, my family, friends and comrades has become intolerable. And the lack of support and understanding from my management and band mates has left me with no other option than to get me cape and seek pastures new.

I would like firstly to offer my apologies to them kids in Paris who'd paid money and waited all day to see us only to be let down AGAIN by the band. Apologies are probably not enough, I know, but I'm afraid it's all I've got.

While I'm on the subject, I'd like to say to the good people of V Festival that experienced the same thing. Again, I can only apologise - although I don't know why, it was nothing to do with me. I was match fit and ready to be brilliant. Alas, other people in the group weren't up to it.

In closing I would like to thank all the Oasis fans, all over the world. The last 18 years have been truly, truly amazing (and I hate that word, but today is the one time I'll deem it appropriate). A dream come true. I take with me glorious memories.

Now, if you'll excuse me I have a family and a football team to indulge.

I'll see you somewhere down the road. It's been a fuckin' pleasure.

Thanks very much.

Goodbye.

NG.

I don't like Noel

Liam Gallagher no longer speaks to his brother and Oasis bandmate Noel - because he annoys him so much.

The pair, who will headline the V Festival with Oasis this weekend, only ever communicate with each other when they are sharing a stage, because their relationship has become so strained.

And things have become so bad between the siblings, they even refuse to travel together.

Liam says, "He doesn't like me and I don't like him, that's it. He hasn't told me what he thinks of anything this year. We've got nothing to say to each other at the moment.

"The only time I see him is onstage and we're a little bit busy (at) that time to be f***ing scratching each other."

The rockers haven't spoken since they had an argument at an airport, which reportedly left Noel in tears.

Liam recalls, "I think it might have been about some f***ing s**t support band he wanted to play with us and he didn't ask my permission.

"So we had a f***ing ding-dong in the airport and I think he started crying then. That was it - doesn't travel with me anymore... For the first time in my life, I haven't got a f***ing clue what's going on with Oasis. It's pretty confusing but I'm not going to freak out about it."

The brothers have publicly slated each other recently by using their Twitter.com blogs to berate one another.

After Noel's exit from a U2 after-show party in London on Saturday, Liam wrote that his brother looked like "he had got through to the next round of The X Factor".

Meanwhile, last month Noel took to his blog to complain about Liam's moody antics during a gig in London, stating "what'siz name" was "probably on his man period".

Noel's 'Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere' (05/05/09)

Yess Mods and Rockers. Arrived in Santiago last night. A beautiful morning.

What follows is an actual interview that actually took place. On the phone. Yesterday. Actually.

Journalist: Hello, Noel?
NG: Hello.
Jnlst: Shall we begin?
NG: Vamos!
Jnlst: Ok. Last time you were seen in Santiago with a sex turkey, what happened?
NG: ?? 'Scuse me?
Jnlst: My pardon. What happened with a sex turkey?
NG: I'm sorry, but did you say "a sex turkey"?
Jnlst: Yes. What happened with him?

HIM?? Jesus! Now, I'll freely admit - if pushed - that I've got up to some dubious gear in the past but this guy can't really think I've had full homosexual sex with a man-turkey? Can he?

We continue...

NG: Ok. We seem to have crossed wires here. Shall we just go back to the beginning and start again? Slowly? Yes?
Jnlst: As you wish.
NG: Ok. Fire at will.
Jnlst: Sorry?
NG: Never mind, just get on with it!
Jnlst: Ok. Can you explain what it was like in Santiago with a sex turkey and how it compares with Chris Sharrock?

Now, I'm thinking, this is either a live radio comedy stunt thing or someone put acid in my tea.. unless...

NG: When you say a sex turkey, do you mean ZAK STARKEY?
Jnlst: Of course.

SEX TURKEY!

NG: Aah, Zak Starkey? You mean Zak Starkey?
Jnlst: Of course. What did you think I meant?
NG: Ha! Fuck, Zak Starkey! I thought you meant that I'd had..oh, never mind. I think we have to wrap this up.
Jnlst: But you never answer my question!!
NG: They're both the same. I need to lie down. Goodbye.

In a bit.

GD.
